Kemahl 'The Hitman' Russell has said that not only is he in prime shape as he prepares to face Ian 'The General' Green on September 9, but momentum is also in his corner. hitmanG20170726GT

Russell recorded a first-round knockout victory over Trinidadian Nigel Edwards at The Mico University College in St Andrew last month. He said that it has brought him much-needed confidence after losing in March to Russian Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Russell said that the convincing win spurred him on to increase his level of training.

"Since training for this fight, I've only taken one day off , the day after the Edwards fight," Russell told STAR Sports.

"I was training from forever, been training from before. After I fought, I took one day off and got right back to training. I'm in the same shape I was before - more strength, more conditioning, more determination, discipline, everything. I'm on a roll now. If I had stopped, I wouldn't be as fit as I am today."

Russell fights Green for the Junior North American Boxing Federation Middleweight title at the Resorts World Casino in New York on September 9. It will be contested over eight rounds. Russell shared how he has been preparing.

"Before I came here, I did 12 rounds sparring with about three different partners and I'm doing eight rounds now. So I know I can do eight rounds easily. I know I'm in shape for the eight rounds," he said.
