Queens, NY – The Gumbo Coalition University, a virtual mentorship program sponsored by Resorts World New York City, celebrated the Class of 2023 with an in-person class and commencement on Thursday, March 30 at the Hyatt Regency JFK Airport at Resorts World New York. Students heard from Marc Morial, CEO of the National Urban League, and author of “The Gumbo Coalition,” which inspired the creation of the program. Robert DeSalvio, the President of Genting Americas East, also shared a few words and posed for photos with the students.

“Venturing into the job market is a daunting task, especially for college students,” said Michelle Stoddart, Vice President of Community Development, Resorts World New York City. “The interactions they’ve had over the last several weeks with these leaders and the lessons they’ve learned will be instrumental as they set out on their career paths. These are exceptional students and give me great hope for the future.”

The graduates heard from guest lecturers including Patricia Robinson, Chief Administrative Officer of the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation and Cedric Dew, Executive Director of the Jamaica YMCA.

Upon completion of the program, students received a $500 scholarship.

Resorts World also presented a check for $12,000, which was made possible through Resorts World Gives, its corporate philanthropic program.
