Resorts World New York City Announces Opening of HeartShare’s ArtShare Exhibit at its Famed Red Wall Art Gallery

Queens, NY – Resorts World New York City announced today a new exhibit at its famed Red Wall Art Gallery, featuring 55 new and previous works by artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). They’re all part of HeartShare’s ArtShare program, created in 2009 to introduce artists and artisans with I/DD to a variety of media that inspire beautiful and meaningful expression through an artist-in-residence program and museum partnerships. The artwork will be on display throughout the month of October.

“Our vision when we created the Red Wall Art Gallery was to give local artists a platform where they could showcase their work,” said Michelle Stoddart, Vice President of Community Development, Resorts World New York City. “We can’t think of a better organization to work with than HeartShare because of work they are doing in the community. It’s our honor to provide these artists with the chance to expose their work to our guests, giving us some insight into their world.”

The exhibit covers three walls and includes acrylics, mosaics, photos, a series of paintings inspired by Basquiat and another inspired by Matisse. There are also artworks inspired by Van Gogh’s sunflower paintings. As the national flower of Ukraine, the sunflower recently became a symbol of hope and resistance for the entire world. All of the artworks in the exhibit were created by ArtShare participants in HeartShare’s day habilitation programs.

“Resorts World New York City has been an outstanding partner to HeartShare, not only with ArtShare but other initiatives over the years,” said Linda Tempel, HeartShare’s Executive Director of Developmental Disabilities Services. “Their Red Wall Art Gallery offers HeartShare the unique opportunity to showcase the inspiring works of our talented ArtShare artists to thousands of Resorts World patrons. Where else could that kind of impact be had? We are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support, as well as their belief in our mission to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in being all that they can be.”

The Red Wall Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the casino, across from the Fifth Avenue Casino, and is accessible daily from 9 a.m. – 5 a.m. It was created in 2012 to showcase work by aspiring and local artists, photographers and textile makers, in conjunction with community arts organizations. The Red Wall Art Gallery is an extension of a commitment to support economic development in the community, and to work with local cultural organizations to expose arts and culture to our audience.
