New 400-room Hyatt Regency Set to Open Q1 2021
Queens, N.Y. (October 12, 2020) – Genting Americas announced today plans for a new hotel located at Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNYC). Hyatt Regency JFK at Resorts World New York, an eight-story, 400-room, four-star hotel, scheduled to open in Q1 2021, will feature residential-inspired guestrooms and premium suites with energizing design and insightful in-room technology. The hotel will also include new restaurants, state-of-the-art conference and meeting spaces, retail options, and additional gaming areas. RWNYC is the only casino in New York City, offering over 6,000 slots and electronic table games to millions of guests annually.
“Hyatt’s global brand recognition will give Resorts World an even greater opportunity to tap into the travel and tourism market worldwide and showcase our unparalleled hospitality, gaming, dining and entertainment offerings,” said Bob DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East. “We are proud to work with such an iconic brand as we move NY Forward, and we are excited that guests will soon be able to enjoy an integrated casino resort experience right here in Queens.”
“We are pleased to collaborate with Genting on this exciting new property and deliver on the Hyatt Regency brand promise of making travel free from stress and filled with success,” said Pete Sears, Americas group president, Hyatt. “This new hotel will be a testament to Hyatt’s commitment to growing with intent in markets that matter most to our loyal members and global guests.”
RWNYC features three unique levels of gaming, Times Square Casino, Fifth Avenue Casino and Central Park Casino, along with several high-limit rooms for Platinum and Black Card members. Conveniently located minutes away from JFK Airport, the hotel will be easily accessible by the A Train, Q37 bus, and LIRR to Jamaica Station with pick-up from a free casino shuttle.
The $400 million hotel and amenities investment has long been part of Genting’s vision of bringing an integrated resort, popular in global destinations such as Las Vegas and Singapore, to New York City. The integrated resort will seamlessly feature a variety of non-gaming amenities to complement the most innovative gaming products and entertainment offerings, allowing guests of all interests and budgets an experience that fits their personal tastes.
Beyond redefining the hotel experience for leisure guests, the new hotel will apply a high-touch experience for meetings and events, with 5,000 square feet of total function space and state-of-the-art meeting facilities all backed by a dedicated team offering meeting planners a seamless, confident service, for themselves and attendees.
This development will bring the total investment of RWNYC to over $1.1 billion since opening in October 2011, after Genting spent more than $700 million to enhance the existing Aqueduct grandstand to become a leading entertainment destination. The hotel addition is estimated to create more than 500 good-paying careers for New Yorkers and provide additional revenue for New York State’s Lottery Education Fund. RWNYC has already generated nearly $3 billion for New York’s public schools.
“This hotel creates job opportunities for hundreds of the borough’s residents and is an important step in improving the gaming experience in Queens,” said New York State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr., of Queens, who also serves as Chair of the NYS Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee. “Resorts World Casino New York City is doing its part to show tourists there is more to New York City than just Manhattan. I look forward to more people exploring the borough I’ve called home my entire life.”
“Resorts World is raising the stakes by providing world class comfort and accommodations to their visitors,” said New York State Senator Leroy Comrie, of Queens. “Our community welcomes the jobs, atmosphere, and energy that this new hotel partnership between Resorts and Hyatt will create. This exciting endeavor is another reason why we should include full table gaming at Resorts World NYC.”
Congressman Gregory Meeks said, “Resorts World Casino New York City’s partnership with Hyatt is a welcome addition to the 5th District, further adding to the thriving economic development in southeast Queens. Hyatt’s hospitality will help service the substantial tourism that comes through JFK, which serves as not just a hub to New York City, but the world. I congratulate Resorts World New York and Hyatt and look forward to seeing the jobs created in the community as a result of this partnership.”
“Hyatt Hotels are an internationally recognized brand, known for their upscale amenities and top-of-the-line destinations in diverse and thriving communities – so it makes sense that they view our community in the same way,” Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato said. “Their investment, in addition to the nearly $1 billion put into retrofitting Aqueduct Racetrack and building the current complex by Genting will help Resorts World contribute even more to our local economy and establish us as an international destination. Welcome to the neighborhood!”
“The hospitality industry plays a vital role in the vibrance of New York City and it is important that employment opportunities continue to thrive through them,” said Queens City Councilwoman Adrienne Adams, Co-Chair of the Black, Latino and Asian Caucus. “I celebrate this milestone partnership between Resorts World and Hyatt in Queens and welcome its addition to our community.”
Queens City Councilman Eric Ulrich said, “I congratulate Resorts World on this exciting partnership, which will bring jobs and economic development to our community. This project will provide jobs to local residents and small businesses throughout the area will benefit from the increased tourism. I look forward to seeing the hotel open.”
“This new development will bring good, union jobs and add to the ever-growing array of Queens destinations, which we are very excited about,” said Queens City Councilman I. Daneek Miller, Chair of the Committee on Civil Service and Labor. “Queens truly is the World’s Borough, and this partnership will no doubt attract even more visitors and continue to grow our local economy.”
“The Resorts World hospitality partnership with Hyatt will offer visitors a top-flight hotel with world-class amenities right here in Queens,” said Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee. “In proximity to JFK, it will be a boon for both Queens and regional tourism, jobs and the economy.”
“The addition of a hotel at Resorts World Casino New York City completes a wonderful transformation in southeast Queens,” said Thomas Grech, Executive Director of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. “Resorts World Casino NYC are excellent partners and now a major presence in Queens County and beyond. The jobs, resulting economic development and contributions to the local economy have created opportunities much larger than ever envisioned. We are grateful for their continued support and partnership.”
“The Queens community will certainly benefit from the new Hyatt hotel at Resorts World NYC. This international brand will only add to the prestige of our premier gaming and entertainment center. Jobs will be created that afford new opportunities for a diverse and growing workforce,” said Seth Bornstein, Executive Director of the Queens EDC.
Community Board 10 Chairwoman Betty Braton said, “I’m excited about the jobs this hotel is generating for the neighboring community, whether it’s construction while it’s being built or more permanent positions once it’s finished. This long-term job creation will help to spark economic activity in Queens.”
“NYC & Company looks forward to welcoming The Hyatt Regency JFK at Resorts World New York to the City’s leading portfolio of hotel properties,” said Fred Dixon, NYC & Company President and CEO. “This new development will add to the ever-growing appeal of Queens as a vibrant destination for domestic and international travelers but will also provide valued tourism jobs as the travel industry emerges from the global pandemic.”
