Queens, NY – Resorts World New York City (RWNYC) celebrated Women’s History Month by honoring female leaders who are all united in their goal of making Queens a better place to live and work. Their own Michelle Stoddart, who serves as Vice President of Community Development, was also recognized for her long-standing work in community service, taking home a 2023 Women of Distinction award from Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman.
“This community is filled with extraordinary women who are dedicated to making a difference in Queens, and I’m humbled to receive this honor,” said Michelle Stoddart, Vice President of Community Development, Resorts World New York City. “Throughout my career I have been fortunate to have female mentors who have played an important role in shaping how I approach my job, and more importantly, my work in the community. It’s my honor to now be able to do the same for the future generation of women in Queens.”
Throughout the month of March, Resorts World highlighted women in corporate leadership roles who are breaking the glass ceiling through an inspiring social media campaign. The series of videos featured women from organizations with strong partnerships with RWNYC, including Queens Deputy Borough President Ebony Young, Irene Scheid, Executive Director of the Alley Pond Environmental Center and Asia Blume, Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens. They were asked to share their experiences and advice, along with who inspired them to become a leader and insight on how women should support others.
“Always make room at the table for one more and always hold the door open for the person behind you,” said Katha Cato, Executive Director, Queens World Film Festival. “Be a connector. Be a person who knows another person who can help on that person’s project. Be a person that brings people together. Be thankful.”
RWNYC was also one of the proud sponsors of “Women’s History Month: Celebrating Women in the Gospel.” Presented by the Greater Queens Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, the March 11 event honored Misty Copeland, Principal Dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, Dr. Hazel Dukes, President of the NAACP New York State Conference, Reverend Elaine Flake, Senior Pastor of the Greater Allen A.M.E Cathedral in New York City and Camille Joseph-Goldman, Group Vice President, State Government Affairs, Charter Communications. Cheryl Wills, NY1 Anchor and Author, served as host.
Part of RWNYC’s Women’s History Month celebration included the unveiling of “Center Stage: The Power of Women Artists in New York and Philadelphia.” The exhibit is on display at the casino’s famed Red Wall Art Gallery through June 16.
Resorts World is also the proud supporter of many women-led organizations throughout New York City including Garden of Hope, Queens Centers for Progress, Queens Botanical Garden, City Harvest and York College.
