RESORTS WORLD NEW YORK CITY AND YORK COLLEGE CONCLUDE INTRO TO GAMING OPERATIONS COURSE TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO CAREER PATHWAYS

Six-Week Course in Partnership with Southeast Queens College Provides Insight into of Gaming Industry

Queens, NY (July 11, 2024) – Resorts World New York City and York College concluded another cohort for its Intro to Gaming Operations course, which offered participants an understanding of the nuanced workings of a casino. The goal of this free six-week course was to help current or potential employees within the gaming industry to grow their careers and succeed within the industry.

“Resorts World New York City is proud to continue its partnership with York College, one of the crown jewels of the CUNY system, to help open career pathways for hard-working New Yorkers,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East. “Intro to Gaming Operations provides a holistic picture of an industry that requires professionals across the spectrum. This course has prepared participants with the best understanding of how those professionals work together, help each other, and ensure their entire community succeeds.”

“Following a year of planning, the combined brain power of York College and Resorts World Casino resulted in the 2022 launch of a successfully popular adult educational offering, Intro to Gaming, which gives a casino overview from a business lens,” said Claudia V. Schrader, Interim President of York College. “The offering is free to all (community members and even World Resorts employees). The York College Instructors are accompanied at each class by a Resorts World content expertise who adds real world experience/insight. More is yet to come, planning for the next class is underway, slated to begin Fall 2024. A partnership like ours, an Institution of higher education and a Business with an international footprint and a local Queens presence serves its community in so many valuable ways, providing a behind the scenes glimpse, which in some cases resulted in employment, a promotion or simply a different point of view.”

“I am delighted to give you my overview of how exciting it was for me to attend the first ‘Intro to Gaming Operations’ course at York College and then to participate as a presenter for Resorts World New York City Security Operations,” said Dennis Jones, a Security Floor Manager at Resorts World New York City. “My involvement in the course from both sides was absolutely great. I learned things from other presenters about casino operations I didn’t know. Just considering the idea of sparking the interest about the gaming industry to the local students and giving them direct information from the staff of Resorts World Casino NYC located right here in the community is outstanding. What better ways exist to meet both the future needs of Resorts World Casino NYC and satisfying the needs of good local employment opportunities.

Intro to Gaming Operations first launched in May 2022 with the mission to create a trained workforce. RWNYC executives helped design the course in partnership with the business and economics department at York College. The product is a unique view into casino operations focusing on slots and table games, information technology, marketing, hotel operations, and security.

The course, which relaunched on May 21, concluded with a tour of RWNYC – located just 20 minutes from York’s Jamaica campus. The class has already been a boon to several employees currently part of the approximately 1,000-person workforce.

The relaunch of Intro to Gaming Operations comes on the heels of the announcement that Resorts World will launch a new job training outreach this year. The campaign, in partnership with the Hotel & Gaming Trades Council, will be Resorts World’s largest such effort in North America, recognizing the increase in jobs created within the industry.
