Grants honor America’s 250th anniversary by supporting community organizations across New York City, the Hudson Valley and the Catskills
Resorts World today announced the 28 nonprofit organizations selected to receive $10,000 grants through its “A Day of Giving” initiative, a commitment of $250,000 in honor of America’s 250th anniversary that grew to $280,000 when each property added a bonus grant of its own. Making a meaningful impact in communities across New York State.
Created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, the initiative celebrates the spirit of service by investing directly in the nonprofit organizations that strengthen neighborhoods, expand opportunity and improve the lives of New Yorkers every day.
More than 400 nonprofit organizations from across the state applied through an open call for the grants. Recipients were selected through a random drawing across Resorts World’s three New York regions, and with so many deserving organizations, Resorts World couldn’t stop at 25. Each of the company’s three properties awarded one additional grant, bringing the total to 28 organizations and $280,000: sixteen in the New York City region, six in the Hudson Valley and six in the Catskills, each receiving $10,000.
“America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect not only on our nation’s history, but on the people and organizations that continue to shape its future,” said Robert DeSalvio, President of Genting Americas East. “These nonprofits represent the very best of New York. Every day they provide essential services, strengthen communities, and create opportunities for those who need them most. We are honored to support their important work through this special initiative.”
The grants build on Resorts World’s longstanding commitment to giving back through its RW Gives program. Since 2011, RW has invested millions of dollars in hundreds of nonprofit organizations while matching employee charitable donations dollar for dollar. Across its three New York properties, Resorts World has also contributed more than $5 billion to New York State’s public education fund, making it one of the state’s largest contributors to education.
